Delbert "Jiggs" Slocum, 84, of Berlin Heights, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday evening, July 8, 2008.
He was born April 9, 1924, and lived in the Berlin Heights area his entire life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Mesenburg Trucking in Collins after 38 years. He was a member of the Norwalk VFW Post. He loved to fish, play cards and spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Willa; his daughters, Jeanne (Buster) Hill of Florence, Debbie (Bill) Jamieson of Sheffield Village, Ohio, and Vicki Hinzman, of Lorain; son, Jack (Judy) Slocum of Wakeman; stepdaughters, Tamara (Randall) Cooke of Freeport, Fla., and Victoria Fleury of Bellevue; stepsons, Richard (Charlotte) Scheufler of Collins, Patrick (Lisa) Scheufler of Soquel, Calif., Steven Scheufler of Pensacola, Fla., Christopher (Krista) Scheufler of Vickery, and Dr. Eric Scheufler of Destin, Fla.; a brother, Frank "Dutch" (Joan) Slocum of Norwalk; and numerous grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice, his second wife, Thelma, a son, Jerry Slocum; his parents, Frank and Mary (Finch) Slocum; sisters, Clara Marie, Ella Mae and Eva Rose; and brothers, Freddie and Johnnie.
Services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, in Berlin Heights.
