Iona E. Briggs, 89, of Willard, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Willard Mercy Hospital.
She was born June 28, 1919, in Greenfield Township, Ohio, lived in New Haven Township, Ohio, most of her life, and moved to Willard in 1995. She graduated from New Haven High School in 1937. She was the owner, along with her husband Leroy, of the Western Auto Store in Willlard from 1940-83. She was a member of the New Haven United Methodist Church, the Original Willard Garden Club, Superior Chapter 328 Order of Eastern Star and, for many years, was the Red Cross Disaster Lady. She enjoyed handiwork and her flowers.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Karen Briggs of Dallas, Ore., and Larry and Joann Briggs of Rhinelander, Wis.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy R. Briggs, whom she married March 20, 1939, and who died May 19, 1995; parents, Clarence and Florence (Carnahan) Baxter; and a brother, Willard Baxter.
Visitation will be from noon Saturday until funeral services at 2 p.m. at Secor Funeral Home in Willard. The Rev. Doug Winner will officiate. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
