Leonard L. Miller, 88, of Sandusky passed away late Monday afternoon, May 10, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after an illness.
Born on May 7, 1922 in Republic, Ohio, he was the son of Allen Leroy and Minnie Merle (Weiker) Miller. He was a 1940 graduate of Republic High School and a 1949 graduate of Ohio State University. Leonard was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific where he had received two Battle Stars. He worked for New Departure-Hyatt (Division of General Motors) for 33 years, retiring in August, 1985. He bowled and golfed in the Senior Men League. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was on the Building and Property Committee for many years, past president of the Industrial Management Club, life member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Navy Landing Ship Medium (rocket) Association, American Legion Post 83; AMVETS Post 17 and a life member of VFW Post 2529.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Y. (Young) Miller, whom he married June 27, 1944; daughter, Ann Christine (Blaise) Comeni of Akron; two sons, William L. (Irene) Miller and Timothy R. (Linda) Miller, both of Sandusky; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Jessica, Ashley and Alan.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Marcia M. Weipert.
At his request cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul Lutheran Church 2211 Mills St., Sandusky; the Rev. Gary R. Ulrich will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Block Cemetery in Republic.
