James B. Rupp Sr., 82, of Sandusky, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus.
He was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Norwalk, graduated from Norwalk St. Paul Catholic High School, and a was U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1943-46. He was employed by Dupont for 10 years and retired from Providence Hospital, after 14 years in 1991.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky; American Legion Post 83, Sandusky; and VFW Post 2529, Sandusky. Jim loved his family very much and loved attending their sporting and musical events.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, June (Roll) Rupp, whom he married Aug. 22, 1953; children, Nancy (Barry) Glass of Sandusky, James (Margaret Dolan) Rupp of Safety Harbor, Fla., Charles (Panna) Rupp of Northwood, Ohio, Steven Rupp of Redwing, Minn., Donna (David Faggionato) Rupp of Sandusky and Brian (Missy Bird) Rupp of Monroeville; grandchildren, Nathan (Deanna) Glass, Ryan Glass, Alan Rupp, Bradley Rupp, Collin Rupp, Chelsea Rupp, Alexandria Bird and Tristan Bird; great-grandson, Kellen Glass; brothers, William E. Rupp of Norwalk, Thomas C. (Phyllis) Rupp of Mason, Ohio; sister, Patricia (James) Westerhold of Norwalk; and sister-in-law, Elsie A. Rupp of Norwalk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Peter and Lucy Naomi (Wheaton) Rupp; brothers and sisters, the Rev. Elmer V. Rupp CSC, Richard E. Rupp, Winfred H (Maria) Rupp, John P. (Lura) Rupp Jr., Rita (Robert) Rupp Strader, Ruth A. Rupp, Hope Mary Rupp in infancy; sister-in-law, Gertrude Rupp; several nephews; and a great-nephew.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with American Legion Post 83 conducting military services.
