Sharon "Sherry" L. Banta, 65, of Catawba Island and formerly of Huron, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
She was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Sandusky, graduated from Huron High School in 1960, and studied banking at Lorain County Community College. She was drapery manager for the former LaSalle Department Store in Sandusky, sold draperies for J.C. Penny Co., and was a bank teller for Lorain National Bank. She was an avid reader who loved spending time in the Huron Library, and she was such close friends with her "Bunco" group that they all chose to winter together in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, John "Dick" Banta Jr., to whom she was married 45 years; son, John (Judy) Banta III of Mahopac, N.Y.; grandchildren, Gwen and Peter; sister, Jane (John) Spriestersbach of Catawba Island; brother, Steve (Christine) Wile of Aurora, Colo.; sister-in-law, Ginna (Harold) Ruffing of Westerville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie K. Banta-Schwarz in 2003 and parents, Richard and Lois (Thomas) Wile.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Huron United Methodist Church, 338 Williams St., Huron. The Rev. J. Roger Skelley-Watts will officiate.
