Richard Emil Andres Sr., 86, residing with his daughter Mary and son-in-law Michael in Norwalk, died June 30, 2012, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Sandusky.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy during the World War II era. He retired as chief deputy from the Huron County Sheriff’s Department after 22 years of service.
He was a life member of VFW, Norwalk Post, and American Legion Post 83, Sandusky.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Gloria Grimes, Annette Tripp, Mary (Michael) Walsh and Laura (Larry) Marten; sons, Richard (Gloria) Andres Jr. and Charles (Kendra) Andres; sister Joyce (Gary) Strohm; brothers, Emil Andres Jr. and Ralph Andres; stepsons, Tom, Daniel and Jerry White; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Andres; parents, Emil and Alice Andres; sisters, Betty Seibert, Marilyn Stacy and Jeannie Bishop; sister-in-law Elaine Andres; and granddaughter Krista Polachek Batchelor.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky with a Fraternal Order of Police service at 7 p.m. during visitation. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at the funeral home with Ernie Bowman, former chaplain of the American Legion Post 83, officiating. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, where American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard will provide military honors.
