Margaret G. Newman, 94, of Bucyrus, Ohio, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, June 18, 2008, in Providence Care Center in Sandusky.
She was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Bucyrus, daughter of the late John and Lillian (Miller) Wentz and graduated from Bucyrus High School. She attended Columbus Business School for a brief period before returning home during the Great Depression to work at J.C. Penney in Bucyrus. On July 15, 1943, she married Donald J. Newman, now deceased, and she worked as an insurance agent at Newman Insurance Agency until his return from WW II in 1945.
Margaret was the oldest member of First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus where she served as an elder for many years. She was also a member of Friends of the Library; Bucyrus Historical Society; and Loyal Order of Moose. Margaret was a volunteer at Bucyrus Community Hospital, worked for the board of elections and loved to cook, play bridge, sew and entertain. She was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Gretchen (Douglas) Studer and Kathleen (Thomas) Kirby, all of Huron; seven grandchildren, Thomas Kirby, Megan Kirby, Heather (Justin) Hohman, Adam (Colleen) Fischer, Mark Studer, Chris (Sandy) Studer and Brian Studer; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Richard Wentz; and a sister, Florence Margraff.
Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, where the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. John Cory officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Crawford or Erie County Humane societies through the funeral home.
