Carl A. Steinbauer, 82, of Clyde, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in St. Francis Health Care Center.
Mr. Steinbauer was born in Toledo, Ohio, June 4, 1926, to the now-deceased Robert E. and Coletta (Toeppe) Steinbauer. His family moved to Clyde in the 1940's and Carl graduated from St. Joseph High School in Fremont. He was part-owner of the former R.E. Steinbauer and Sons farming organization prior to his retirement.
Carl was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, where he served as an Eucharistic minister and lector. He was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Ilene (Blavatt) Defrieze-Steinbauer, whom he married July 26, 2002; two daughters, Christine (Thomas) Kramer, Maumee, Ohio, and Joanne (Dennis) Wasserman, Clyde; stepson, Paul (Jacqueline) DeFrieze, Vickery; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; sister, Coletta (Eugene) Miller, Fremont; and five brothers, Robert (Rita) Steinbauer, Clyde, Richard Steinbauer, Florida, John (Rosemary) Steinbauer, Clyde, Thomas (Mary Ann) Steinbauer, Clyde, and James (Marian) Steinbauer, Clyde.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan (Nash) Steinbauer, whom he married Feb. 19, 1949, and she died Aug. 10, 1997.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday in Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde, with a Christian wake service at 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde; the Rev. Joseph Steinbauer, a nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
