Joel Leo Meyer, 18, of Clyde, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at his home.
Joel was born Sept. 20,1989, in Fremont, to Larry and Jennifer (Vogel) Meyer. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, where he was a member of the Youth Group. He was a 2008 graduate of Clyde High School, where he was president of Key Club; president of Varsity C; vice president of his class sophomore and junior year; secretary of Renaissance; Buckeye Boys State Delegate; academic honor roll/high honor roll; member of Spanish Club; secretary of Science Club; member of student council; and was on the varsity football, varsity baseball and varsity wrestling teams. Joel participated in projects such as Make A Difference Day (a community-wide clean up day); Angel Tree (purchasing and wrapping gifts for needy children during Christmas), Santa's Secret Shop (assisting young children purchase gifts for their families); and various community sponsored activities and as a camp leader at youth football clinics.
Survivors include his parents; siblings, Shane Meyer, Stephanie Meyer, Lauren Meyer and Ryan Meyer, all of Clyde; maternal grandparents, David and Mary Vogel of Bellevue; paternal grandmother, Katherine Meyer of Clyde; maternal great-grandmother, Marian Schrickel of Clyde; aunts, Heidi Swanson, Marian Fletcher and Lauren Turner; and uncle, Philip Meyer.
Joel was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leo Meyer, and aunt, Martha Meyer.
Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. today at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. Funeral mass will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, with the Rev. Dennis Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
