William E. "Bill" Arthur, 68, of Sandusky, died early Sunday morning, June 15, 2007, at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born July 2, 1939, in Loogootee, Ind. He was a 1957 graduate of Sandusky High School and attended Ohio University. He retired from the Citizens Banking Company in 1982 as assistant vice president. He owned and operated Ronnie's Beer Dock for many years.

He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Ceremonial Detachment. He was a long-time and former member of Calvary Episcopal Church. He was a life member of Sandusky Elks Lodge 285, where he was past exalted ruler from 1978-79 and lodge secretary for the past nine years. He enjoyed local baseball and was an avid golfer.

Bill was involved in many activities and organizations including: Service Clubs United; Meals on Wheels (as a driver); Mended Hearts member; volunteer for the Ohio Heart Association; volunteer for the Sandusky Recreation Department; and was a former volunteer for Sandusky State Theatre.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie (Joerger) Arthur, whom he married June 15, 1963; two daughters, Debra A. (Rick Wilke) Arthur of Sandusky and Susan L (Ernest) Stovall of New Albany, Ohio; two grandchildren, Reed William Gossard and Hagan Arthur Stovall; two brothers, James Arthur of Sandusky and Thomas (Shirley) Arthur of Grand Junction, Colo.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert S. and Junaita F. (Gilbert) Arthur.

Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at Sandusky Elks Lodge, 120 E. Adams St., Sandusky where funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Pastor Elmer Novak will officiate. Members of the Elks Lodge 285 will conduct an Elks Memorial Service following the funeral service for Bill. Groff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
