Raymond D. Riedy, 90, of Sandusky, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born April 2, 1918, in Sandusky, the son of Raymund S. and Catherine L. (Kelley) Riedy. He was a 1936 graduate of Sandusky High School and a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army 202nd Combat Engineering Battalion.
Raymond and his two brothers operated R.S. Riedy & Sons Roofing, established by their father. He retired in 1983.
He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Building and Maintenance Committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, AMVETS, VFW Post 2529, Elks Lodge 285 and Carpenters Local 44.
He is survived by his three daughters, Kathy (Michael) Trueman, Milan, Barbara Weaver, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Gina Schippel, Foothill Ranch, Calif.; son, R. David (Soozi) Riedy, Sandusky; grandchildren, Shawn Trueman, Heather Vitaz, Chad, Jason and Travis Weaver, Elizabeth Westfall, Matthew and Andy Riedy, Carrie Coker and Brian Schippel, Matthew and Adam Wineman, and Emily Hildum; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Wagner, Sandusky; and brother, Ned Riedy, Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta (Smith) Riedy, who died in 2002; parents, Raymund S. and Catherine L. (Kelley) Riedy; sister, Marion Webber; and brother, Joseph, who died earlier this year.
Friends may call for rosary service at 4 p.m. Friday with visitation following from 5-8 p.m. in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Marty Nassr officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
