Harley L. White, 88, of Sandusky and formerly Monroeville, died suddenly Sunday evening, May 25, 2008, in Firelands RegionalMedical Center, Sandusky.
He was born May 6, 1920, in Norwalk. He was a 1938 graduate of Norwalk High School and was a graduate of Tri State University in Angola, Ind. Harley was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Iraq. He was employed as an electrician with NASA until his retirement. In 1966, Harley was awarded the Monroeville Spectator "Citizen of the Year" for his unselfish service to the welfare of his community. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 2743, Norwalk.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Mary M. Wilhelm; three daughters, Jane (William) Saettel of Medina, Ohio, Janet (Jeff) Skaggs of Huron and Jackie (Matt Courtney) White of Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Christopher, Nathan and Courtney Saettel and Lauren and Meredith Skaggs; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Natalie (Livengood) White; two sisters, Irma Schild and Leah Keirns; and brother, Richard White.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today in Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Mr. David Schild, nephew of the deceased, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery,Monroeville.
