Willard O. Hamilton, 87, residing in Sandusky, died early Thursday morning, May 15, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Coeburn, Va. He was a coal miner in the Clinchfield coal mine in Clinchco, Va. and retired from Routh Packing in 1986 as a meat cutter after 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a medical technician at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C.
He was a past member of Sandusky American Legion Post 83 and Sandusky Amvets Post 17. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy A. and William J. Laughlin and Patricia A Riesterer, both of Sandusky; two sons, Billy W. Hamilton and Danny L. Hamilton, both of Sandusky; four grandchildren, Amy Logan, Erik (Jen) Laughlin, Corey Laughlin and Sara Hamilton; one great-granddaughter, Brynn Laughlin; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred J. (Pruitt) Hamilton in 2006; parents, Walker I. and Sallie H. (Pannell) Hamilton; two brothers Edison and Oley Hamilton; and three sisters, Edrie Marshall, Avie Dotson and Reese Lowery.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home; the Rev. Philip Gardner of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
