Lester E. Dahm, 90, Perkins Township, Sandusky, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, May 10, 2008, inFirelands Regional MedicalCenter.
He was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Sandusky and was a lifelong resident. Lester was one of Coach Wittaker's "watch charm" guards for the Blue Streaks on the 1934 and 1935 undefeated state champion Buckeye Conference football team.
He was a former president of Local 1329 of the International Association for Machinists, Superintendent of the Erie County Children's Home, and past Master of Perkins Grange, as well as member of the state and national Grange organizations.
He is survived by his sons, Larry Dahm, Sandusky and Sebring, Fla., and Bruce (Kathy) Dahm, Houston; brother, Richard Dahm, Castalia; grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Hedberg, Orville, Ohio, Tonya Hedberg, Huron, Shelley Hedberg and Gary Dahm, both of Sandusky, Amy Dahm, Nicosia, Cyprus, Christa (Greg) Pryor, Houston, and Katie Dahm, Dallas; great-grandchildren, Tony Hedberg, Cory Hedberg, Joey Hedberg, Jayson Hedberg, and Meredith Pryor; great-great-grandson, Jaydyn Hedberg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife of 53 years, Emma (Staley) Dahm; his precious daughter, Sharon Hedberg; parents, Christopher and Anna (Yocum) Dahm; and brothers, Clarence Dahm and Christopher Dahm Jr.
The family will receive friends from noon Saturday untilmemorial services at 1 p.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; Pastor Don Brown of Salem United Methodist Church will officiate. Private burial of his cremains will take place in Perkins Cemetery.
