John L. Haynes, 87, Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, May 11, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
He was born in Sandusky, March 31, 1921, and was a 1940 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard having served during World War II. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of American Legion Post 83. He enjoyed gardening and going with his late wife, Georgine, as she played music in all the nursing homes in the surrounding area.
He is survived by two sons, Dale L. (Tomi) Haynes of Arvada, Colo., Jerry L. (Priscilla) Haynes of Oro Valley, Ariz.; five grandchildren, John Haynes, Marci Haynes, Benjamin (Jennifer) Haynes, Kim (Paul) Carpenter, and Jeremy Young (Casey Doyle); two great-grandsons, Tim and Issac; two great-granddaughters, Stevie and Heidi; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgine (Wykoff) Haynes, April 13, 2003; grandson, Christopher Young; parents, George and Lucy (Hartman) Haynes; brothers, William and George Haynes; and four sisters, Pearl Johnson, Dorothy Pfaff, Gladys Gast and Nina Haynes.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home; the Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
