Eugene "Butch" Bing, 85, of Sandusky, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the Ohio Veterans Home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Sandusky. He owned and operated Bing Contractors and Cabinet Shop from 1959-2004. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1943-1945. He served in the European Theater, with tours of duty in England, Germany, Belgium and France. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 2529, American Legion Post 83, and Knights of Columbus.
Butch enjoyed raising his labrador retrievers. He was an avid bowler, bowling many years in the Kof C and other leagues.
Mr. Bing is survived by his wife, Genevieve (Jacalone) Bing, whom he married Sept. 15, 1945; three daughters, Jeannine (Paul) Riffle of Walkersville, W.V., Carol (Thomas) Baum and Nancy (John) Hagelberger, both of Sandusky; three sons, Scott (Paula) Bing of Albuquerque, N.M., Thomas Bing and James (Shellie) Bing, both of Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Martha (Smith) Bing; and three brothers, Robert, Alvin, and Richard Bing.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Marty Nassr officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
