Lawrence B. Smith, 89, of Vermilion Township, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Vermilion and has been a lifelong resident. He was a self-employed farmer and also worked for Maurer Dairy, Vermilion Street Department, Landmark in Norwalk and Famous Supply in Sandusky.
He was a member of Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida, walking and fishing.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Quinn of Pickerington, Ohio; sons, Alfred Smith of Sandusky and Lauren Smith of Vermilion; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Nora Belle Smith; parents, James Alfred and Martha K. (Kuhl) Smith; and brother, Nelson Smith.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today in Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday; life celebrant, Matt Humphrey, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
