Michael R. "Mike" Thomas, 64, Huron, formerly of Castalia, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

He was born in Sandusky, August 20, 1943. Mike was a 1961 graduate of Sandusky High School and received his associate's degree in HVAC from Terra Tech. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War in Korea and Japan.

Mike retired in 1998 from Ford Motor Co., Sandusky, where he worked for more than 30 years. He owed and operated Thomas Refrigeration and Air Conditioning for 10 years and most recently was employed part-time at Thunderbird Golf Course in Huron.

He was a member of Faith Memorial Church where he was an Elder of the church and active with his nursing home ministry for many years. He was a member of UAW Local 1216.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, married Feb. 4, 1967, Rosalie J. (Nickester) Thomas; family, Alicia (Chris) Waddell of Cabot, Ark., Kristofer Thomas of Huron, and Amanda Thomas of Kettering, Ohio; five grandchildren, Brittany Waddell, Shelby Moyer, and Sydnie, Sumnerlyn, and Kamden Thomas; sister, Mary Lou (Jay) Held of Fremont; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ursula (Tracy) Thomas; sister, Susan Blanton; and brother, James Thomas.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Additional viewing will be from 10 a.m., Tuesday, until funeral service at 11 a.m. in Faith Memorial Church, 1320 E. Strub Road, Sandusky. The Rev. Kenneth L. Hiser will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
