Edward J. Albert, 81, of Sandusky, died Sunday, May 4, 2008.
He was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Sandusky, son of the late Edward George and Louise M. (Kaufman) Albert. He was a graduate of both Sandusky High School (Class of 1944) and The Ohio State University School of Music. He was employed as a band director in the Sandusky Public Schools for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served with the U.S. Field Artillery in Japan during World War II. He performed as a trumpet player with many dance bands in the area and was a member of Vacationland Band, the North Coast concert band and the Erie County Ohio State Alumni Band.
He was a member of the VFW, Post 2529; American Legion, Post 83; the Erie County Retired Teachers Association; the Ohio Retired Teachers Association; the Senior Men's Fellowship Club; and he was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Albert of Green Springs and Susan West of Brenham, Texas; granddaughters, Erin and Kelly; sister-in-law, Jeanette Albert of Sandusky; brother-in-law, Robert Ziemke of Sandusky; and special friend, Ruth Merrill of Sandusky.
His first wife, Shirley Ann (Leder), who died Dec. 10, 1984; second wife, Susan Jane (Ziemke), who died Sept. 25, 2001; and his parents, preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Tuesday until funeral services at 11 a.m. in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, the Humane Society of Erie County, Back to the Wild or Stein Hospice Service, Inc.
