Frances L. Messer, 88, of Sandusky and formerly of Clyde, died Monday, May 31, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
Mrs. Messer was born March 16, 1922, in Liberty, S.C., daughter of the late Huey M. and Myrtle L. (Gillstrap) Stancil Sr. She was a member of the Church of God in Clyde, the Senior Citizens, and the former Top Hats, where she served as an officer. She was a wonderful wife to her husband, who was ill for 10 years, and a wonderful mother to her six children. She spent many years devoted to the Lord.
She married Bruce G. Messer Oct. 9, 1945, and he died in 1980. Surviviors include their children, Kerry B. Messer of Clyde, Linda P. (Bill) Humphery and Ronnie M. (Tammy) Messer of Fremont, Steve E. (Debbie) Messer of Clyde and Vickie L. Noftz and Cheryl A. (Rick) Lovell of Sandusky; 14 grandchildren, and 51 great and great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Huey M. (Kathy) Stancil Jr., Alma (Gene) Paul and Albert Stancil, all of Clyde; along with a brother-in-law, Harvey Paul of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Elece "Pat" Paul and sister-in-law, Kathryn Stancil.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until services at 11 a.m. at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde, with Pastor Gene Paul officiating. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery.
