Isaac "Ike" Brown Sr., 79, Sandusky, departed this life, Sunday, April 20, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus.
He was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Columbus, Miss., to Sam and Hattie (Ash) Brown, and moved to Sandusky at an early age. He was employed by Farrell Cheek Steel Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1982. He was a lifetime member of Porter Memorial C.M.E. Church, Sandusky, where he served on the trustee board, usher board, steward board and as custodian, for many years. Ike was an avid Cleveland sports fan, watching the Indians and Browns.
He loved hunting with his older brothers, and participating in family events.
He is survived by, and was united in holy matrimony to, Velma (Lee) Brown, June 6, 1951, in Columbus. Their union was blessed with eight children, daughter, Teresa Brown, Sandusky, and sons, Ernest (Wilma) Brown, Columbus, Isaac (Terrianne) Brown, Lorain: Jesse (Cathelean) Brown and Terry Brown, both of Sandusky; and Melvin Brown, Lansing, Mich.; sisters, Hattie Smith and Alberta Humphries, both of Sandusky; brother, Willie (Mary) Brown, Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, raised as a daughter, Effie Easley, who all survive him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sam Brown; daughter, Rosemary Brown; parents; and brothers, William Brown, Roosevelt Brown, A.B. Brown, Sam Brown, and John Brown.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday in Porter Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church; the Rev. Bruce Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
