Cora "Evelyn" Whyde, 76, of Castalia, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at her residence.
She was born April 9, 1932, in Kalamazoo, Mich., and moved to Sunny Meade during her childhood. She graduated from Margaretta High School in 1950 and lived in Castalia all her adult life.
She was a homemaker and dedicated her life to raising her children and her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading poetry, writing and spending time with her family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, William D. Whyde; three sons, Richard (Vesta) Whyde of Sandusky, and Darrell and Randy Whyde, both of Castalia; one daughter, Diane (Kevin) Howard of Castalia; six grandchildren, Paul Howard of Castalia, Magen Howard of Lexington, Ky., Brandon and Brett Whyde of Castalia, Andra McLaughlin of Port Clinton and D.J. Whyde of Sandusky; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ben (Kay) Miller of Sandusky; and one cousin, Lucille (Ron) Heath of Lake Wales, Fla.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Ann Whyde in infancy; her mother, Edna May Breedlove; her father, Clyde Briggs; and two brothers, Pete Coburn and Ray Miller.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until services at noon in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
