Myrtle "Merle" Magill Samko, 92, of Sandusky, died Friday morning, April 18, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 1, 1916, in Groton Township and was a 1934 graduate of Margaretta High School. Merle was employed at the former A.H. Vogel Cake Decorations and the former Caryle Crane Store. She was married to Peter Samko, Feb. 3, 1940, in Grace Episcopal Church by the Rev. Donald Wonders.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school.
She was a former member of the St. Elizabeth Guild and Junior League, both of the Church, Eleanor Chapter 331, O.E.S., a 50-year-plus member of Martha Pitkin Chapter of D.A.R., and A.A.R.P. Merle was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan.
She is survived by her husband, Peter; son, Peter Jon (MaryAnn) Samko of Solon, Ohio; daughter, Marla Samko of Lakewood, Ohio; three grandsons, Christian Samko of Garfield Heights, Ohio, and Taylor and Pierson Trimarchi, both of Lakewood; great-grandson, Ryan Samko; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including a special niece, Deanna Allensworth of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Magill; mother and stepfather, Charlotte Stacey Magill Hill and D.D. Hill; three sisters, Bernita Oross, Charlotte Russell and Deloris Remmel; and two brothers, Alfred Magill and Edward J. Mowery.
Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home; the Rev. Robert T. Herkner will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
