Chester Douglas Rowe, 73, Sandusky, died Monday afternoon, April 7, 2008, after a long illness.
He was born June 23, 1934, in Indianapolis, Ind. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 2, 1953-Dec. 1, 1961, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He was honorably discharged from the military with the rank of private. After leaving military service, he eventually settled in Sandusky and raised his family. He worked for more than 40 years at New Departure-Hyatt (Delphi).
Chester is survived by his sons, David C. Rowe, Matthew T. Rowe, Daniel L. Rowe, Joseph D. Rowe and Andrew J. Rowe, all of Sandusky; daughter, Eunice N. McFarland, of San Diego; five grandchildren, Tiger Reuben James McFarland, Kelsey Peters, Chyanne Rowe, Joelanda Rowe and Joseph Rowe; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Eunice Rowe; his mother, Louwillia Bright; and his sister, Sandra Bright.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home; the Rev. Curtis A. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
