Alan R. Eberly, 78, of Catawba Island, died Thursday in Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton.
He was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Lakeside, the son of the late Augustus and Bernice (Miller) Eberly. He married Lorna McRitchie, July 16, 1949, and she survives.
He worked as a plumber for Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 42, out of Norwalk, until his retirement in 1991. Alan and Lorna owned and operated Eberly Campground on Catawba Island for more than 35 years until they sold it in 2001.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury Township, Port Clinton Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1610, and captain of the Lutheran dartball league at St. Paul Lutheran Church. His hobbies included making wine and he enjoyed giving bottles of his homemade wine away to his family and friends. He loved to fish, especially ice fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lorna; grandchildren, Deb (Jamie) Bartlett, Kenton, Ohio, and Dave (Jenny) Eberly, Painesville, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Landon and Lauren Bartlett and Isobel Eberly; brother, Roy (Paula) Eberly, Port Clinton; niece, Carolynn (Bill) Snyder and nephew, Dan Eberly, both of Port Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dale Eberly; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until memorial service at 11 a.m., Monday, in LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 East Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead; the Rev. Christina L. Young officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery.
