Josephine “Jo” (Tucker) Stovall, 57, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Stein HospiceCareCenter,afteralengthy illness.
JowasbornMarch 7, 1951, in Washington, D.C., and attendedhighschool there.Shegraduated with a B.S. degree in public communications from Boston University in 1973.
vice-president of Akil, Inc., from 1979 to 2005, and formerly served as the Coordinator of Community Hospital and Volunteer Relations for Good Samaritan Hospital.
Jo also worked as the assistant copy editor and traffic control secretary for WLEC Radio Station.
Jo was very active in the community and served on various boards of directors including the Sandusky Library Association, Stein Hospice Service, Inc., Goodwill Industries, Inc., and Perkins Township Zoning Commission Board.
She also enjoyed active memberships with the Sandusky Club of Black Business and Professional Women, American Business Women’s Association, where she was named Sandusky Chapter Woman of the Year in 2002, was a life member of NAACP, and Iota Phi Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, where she was recognized as Business Woman of the Year in 2002.
Additionally, in 2002, Jo was named Firelands Regional Medical Center’s Woman of Excellence.
Jo will always be remembered as an exceptionally loving mother, wife, sister and friend.
Her selflessness and willingness to always put others’ needs and well being in front of hers will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Charles R. Stovall, whom she married Oct. 6, 1973; son, Jason L. Stovall of Los Angeles; sister, Karen Tucker, R.P., of Silver Springs, Md.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lionel and Velda Stovall of Sandusky; special friends, William and Yvonne Mason; goddaughters, Janine and Risha Mason; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Willie and Marie (Roberson) Tucker Jr.
A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. The Rev. Herman Robinson will officiate.
