Leroy C. Haynes, 78, of Huron, died Wednesday evening, April 2, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was born March 1, 1930, in Sandusky and was a 1949 graduate of Berlin Heights High School. Leroy was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed as a truck driver for more than 30 years, and retired in 1996 from Wikel Bulk Express. He was a Huron volunteer fireman for 27 years, retiring as a lieutenant. Leroy was a member of the Huron Eagles, Sandusky AMVETS and Sandusky American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Martha M. Hastings; two daughters, Lisa (Oren Henry) Haynes-Henry of Cincinnati and Lee Anne (Bill Shantz) Atkinson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; four grandchildren, Mia, Colee, Max and Ian Michael Atkinson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Ida Hastings; nieces, nephews, other relatives; and special friends, Charles and Lynette Hensley of Norwalk and Penny and Rich Adelman of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Clara (Ohlemacher) Haynes.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. Graveside services for the family will be in Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights. Foster Funeral Home, Huron, is in charge of arrangements.
