Gene W. Schoewe, 54, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, March 30, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 4, 1953, in Sandusky. Gene was a 1971 graduate of Sandusky High School and earned an associate's degree from Terra Technical College. He worked for General Motors for more than 30 years as a master welder, retiring in 2002. He loved the months of summer having been a certified diver and enjoyed going boating. He was an avid Harley-Davidson rider and loved motorcycles. Gene was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and UAW Local 913.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah K. "Deb" (Gaydosh) Schoewe; two daughters, Gwen Schoewe of Sandusky and Carrie Schoewe of Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren, Cole, Britney, Lulu and Karia; father, Eugene R. Schoewe of Sandusky; sister, Sharon (Ron) Funni of Sandusky; a niece and several nephews; and his beloved bulldog, Max.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doreen (Shaw) Schoewe in 1987; and two brothers, Teddy and Ron Schoewe.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. David W. Nuss will officiate. At his request, cremation will take place following services. Interment will be later in the Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Sandusky.
