John A. Meggitt, 85, of Vickery, died in Stein Hospice Tuesday, March 25, 2008.
Mr. Meggitt was born Oct. 9, 1922, to Alfred G. and Mary Maudaline (Donaldson) Meggitt. He attended both Venice and Townsend Schools.
He was a farmer and a truck driver. He was a former longtime 4-H advisor for Townsend Blue Ribbon Boys and was involved in many activities in the farming community. John was a charter member of the "Riley Country Club" and played cards there for more than 25 years.
On March 25, 1944, John married Betty Yeckley. Betty (Yeckley)Meggitt died Dec. 24, 2006,following 62 years of marriage.
He is survived by four children, Alfred (Parketta) Meggitt of Norwalk, Leland (Delores) Meggitt of Vickery, and Carolyn (Ralph) Nath of Vickery; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Aline (Robert) Barr of Vickery; Arline (Luther) Hirt of Clyde and Evelyn (Walter) Binger of Vickery.
In addition to his wife; their daughter, Janet Roschie, preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1973. His parents. Two brothers, George Meggitt and Donald Meggitt, also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Vickery; the Rev. David Klappenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Vickery, or Stein Hospice, Sandusky.
