Aloysius J. "Al" Ontko, 85, ofMarblehead, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1922, in Marblehead, son of the late Frank and Anna (Adams) Ontko. Al was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served his country during World War II.
On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Genevieve Glovinsky, and she preceded him in death Feb. 11, 2008. He worked as a millwright at General Motors-New Departure in Sandusky until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, VFW Post 7572 in Marblehead, and American Legion Post 83,Sandusky.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis (Charlene) Ontko and Roger Ontko, both of Marblehead; daughter, Carol (Larry) Bennice of Port Clinton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian "Monie" Griesser, ofMarblehead; Eulalis Walliser of Tiffin; and Dolores Strickler of Cleveland, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Clarence "Bill" Ontko, Francis "Bange" Ontko, and Daniel Ontko; and sisters, "Nettie" Fish, Anna Dziak, "Mag" Ringholz, Josephine Stocks, and Paulene Chagnon.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday in Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, where VFWPost 7572 will conduct services at 7:15 p.m.
Additional visitation will be from 11:30 a.m., Saturday, until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead; the Rev. Daniel J. Ring will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites given by VFW Post 7572.
