Jim Robel, 81, of Lakeside, died Monday, March 24, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Marblehead, the son of Steven and Mary (Chura) Robel. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Jim retired from Scandura in 1988. He was a member of VFW Post 7572 in Marblehead, where he served the office of quartermaster and was past commander. Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Tin Can Sailors.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene (Lowien), whom he married June 25, 1949; son, James (Theresa) Robel of Fairview Park; daughter, Christine (James) Twarek of Aurora, Ohio; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean (Keith) Hodel of Sebastian, Fla. and Pat (Bob) Below of Port Clinton; and brother, Paul Robel of Bullhead City, Ariz.
His parents and sister, Mary Ann Bodnar, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Marblehead, where the VFW will conduct services at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from9 a.m. Saturday until Mass ofChristian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead; the Rev. Daniel Ring will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military ritesconducted by VFW Post 7572 of Marblehead.
