Marilyn Fran Spelman, 84, of Hudson, Ohio, died March 17, 2008, at Laurel Lake in Hudson.
A beloved wife and mother, she was born Jan. 4, 1924, to Merrill and Lucile (Oswald) Bauman in Sandusky, and was a graduate of Sandusky High School in 1941. Marilyn attended Bowling Green State University and Kent State where she received a B.A. in English and an M.S. in library science. She was a volunteer at the Hudson Library for many years. A member of Questers and the Hudson Congregational Church, she loved spending time with family, reading, summers at Cedar Point and collecting antiques.
She will be forever missed by her husband of 64 years, Jack Spelman; her children, Jackie Barton of Herald, Calif., Jeff (Jody) Spelman of Wooster, Ohio, and Jane Weisman of Stow, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Rob) Case, Jack Spelman II, Jonathan and Jordan Spelman, and Will and Alec Weisman; and three great-grandchildren, Bridget, Katarina and Lillian Case. In addition, she leaves many dear friends from Sandusky, Kent, and Hudson.
From a 17th Century letter: “To my beloved family and friends, death is nothing at all; I've only slipped away into the next room. I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Let me remind you that life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolutely unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you for an interval somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.”
A memorial service for Marilyn will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, Hudson.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Hospice, 1742 Georgetown Road, Suite J, Hudson, OH 44236, or to your favorite charity.
