Mary Runner (Merk) Lauby, 81, of Sandusky, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 22, 1926, in Sandusky. She was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary High School, and a 1947 graduate of Providence School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for Providence Hospital from 1947-65, and then became a clinical instructor for the Sandusky School of Practical Nursing, retiring in 1981.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Alumni Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Sandusky Maritime Association and Sandusky Yacht Club. She was also an avid bridge player.
Her husband, Barney, whom she married Aug. 6, 1981; three sons, Robert (Janet) Runner, Thomas (Janet) Runner and Jack (Kathleen) Runner, all of Sandusky; five grandchildren, Dan, Beth, Kenneth, Kristin and Kelly Runner; a great-grandson, Brock; a sister, Evelyn (James) Claar; and nieces, nephews and other relatives survive her.
Her first husband, Kenneth Runner, who died in 1970; her parents, August and Stella (Tremmel) Merk; a sister, Cleo Bluhm; and a brother, Paul Merk, preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with the Rev. Phil Feltman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
