Ada Iola (Knepper) Smith, 89, of Tiffin, died at 9:20 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
Ada was born May 29, 1918, in Monroe County, Mich., daughter of the late Wilfred E. and Alice (Wallace) Rathfelder. She married John William Knepper in 1942, in Bloomdale, Ohio, and he preceded her in death in December 1966. She then married E. Haldon Smith in 1970; he also preceded her in death, in 1973.
Ada was a 1940 graduate of Bowling Green State University. She was an elementary school teacher for 25 years and a librarian for 17 years for the Columbus Public Library. Ada was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tiffin, Delta Kappa Gamma, and many other church and women's groups throughout her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Marie Knepper of Sandusky; and sister, Ruth Fodal of Ft. Myers, Fla.
Ada was preceded in death by an infant daughter; her parents; and two brothers, Marvin and Rollo Rathfelder.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday in Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Tiffin. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; Pastor Gary Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in Benton-Ridge Cemetery in Benton Ridge.
