Robert Lee (Bob) Stein, 79, passed away March 10, 2008, after a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 18, 1928, to Gladys and Leo Foos. He married MaryKatherine Collier in 1951. Bob graduated from Milan High School in 1946.
He was a CPA and was employed by Dale Olsen & Company for 17 years. He then founded Stein Accounting and Computer Services in Norwalk in 1972, and was president of the firm until he retired in 1998.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed vegetable, fruit and flower gardening. He and Mary also enjoyed, and are well known for, their many varieties of beautiful irises.
Bob was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Milan, where he was active in maintaining the accounting records for many years, served several terms on the parish council, and taught religious education.
Bob was also a member of the Milan and Berlin-Milan School Boards for 12 years, during which time he served a term as president.
He was instrumental in theformation of Edison High School and the construction of its facility near Milan.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Stein; daughters Marilyn (Jerry) Slivka, and Joanne (Jim) Long; sons, Jim (Peggy) Stein, John (Jan) Stein, Mark (Melissa) Stein, and Alan (Tammy) Stein; five granddaughters; 10 grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Foos; mother, Gladys May Foos Stein; stepfather, Charles Stein; and sister, Barbara Stein Swinehart.
Friends will be received from3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1 South Main St., Milan, with liturgical services conducted at 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will beconducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, with prayers at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 130 Main St., Milan, with the Rev. Frank Speier celebrating.
Burial will follow in St. Anthony's church cemetery.
