Okel "Sonny" Church, 76, of Huron, died Monday in SteinHospice Care Center in Sandusky.
He was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Lawrence County, Ky. and has lived in this area since the early 1950's. He worked at Vulcan Materials in Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife, Joann (Collins), whom he married on Oct. 25, 1952; two daughters, Linda (Larry) Klaiber of Berlin Heights, and Brinda Church of Huron; two sisters Opel (Denver) Cordle of Jamestown, S.C., and Irene (Hershel "John") Cordle of Berlin Heights; two brothers, Fred (Marie) Church of Berlin Twp., and Worth (Vonnie) Church Jr. of Wakeman; two grandchildren, Justin of Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Zach Klaiber of Berlin Heights and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, in 1976; parents, Worth and Nore (Charles) Church; sister, LouVerne McKnight; and brother Homer Church.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South St., Berlin Heights, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Pastor Larry Klaiber, of the River of Life Christian Church at 2590 Ohio18 East, Norwalk, will be officiating. Burial will follow at RiversideCemetery in Berlin Heights.
