Sigvard Christian Berg Svanoe, 94, formerly of Fremont and most recently of Sandusky, died Monday, March 3, 2008, in Parkvue Healthcare Center in Sandusky.
Sig was born April 18, 1913, in Flora, Norway, to Atle and Martha (Simonson) Svanoe, the third youngest of seven children. His family moved to America when he was six years old so that the children could receive a better education; they settled in South Dakota. Sig’s father, a Lutheran Minister, returned to Norway to continue preaching in the state church, returning to America every few years.
Graduating from South Dakota State with a degree in dairy farming, Sig went on to Ohio State University for his master’s degree. After working for Isaly’s and owning his own soft ice cream store, he found his niche selling insurance for Nationwide and stayed with the company for 48 years, retiring in 1985.
