Freddie Carol Gibson, 59, Sandusky, died early Thursday morning in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.
She was born August 3, 1948, in North Carolina. She attended the Mount Harvest Church of God in Milan. She worked at Goodwill Industries on Perkins Avenue and the Venice Road Dollar General Store, both in Sandusky. Freddie was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society where she helped encourage other cancer survivors. She enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren, and her pets.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Edward Gibson, whom she married Sept. 17, 1965; two daughters, Tracey and Rickey "Hillbilly" Ring of Sandusky, and Jacquelyn and Brent Brandal of Huron; one son, Chris Gibson and Elizabeth McClain of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Chris Jr., Samantha, and Sarah Gibson, Matthew, Amber, and Kara Ring, and Shane Brandal; her mother and father, Bessie and Ottis Baker of Breman, Ala.; three sisters, Katrina and Ruel Phillips, Empire, Ala., Shelly and Robert Kaufman, Breman, and Jody Baker of Florida; her father-in-law, Charlie and Illene Gibson, Sandusky; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and her special pets, Precious, Lulu and Teena.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Carter; one brother, Shannon Baker; and her mother-in-law, Kathleen Gibson.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. on Saturday until services at 9:30 a.m. in Mount Harvest Church of God, U.S. 250 and Ohio 113. Pastor Carl R. Woodyard will officiate. Burial will be in Sandhill Cemetery.
