Penny Inez McCartney, 84, residing in Sandusky, died early Saturday evening, Feb. 23, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.
She was born on May 31, 1923, in Cleveland, Ark. She graduated from Scotland High School, Scotland, Ark., in 1941, and took a sheet metal course during World War II. She retired from New Departure Hyatt as a machine operator after 22 years of service. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge 223 in Port Clinton for many years. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews, traveling back to Arkansas and the wild animals running through her back yard.
She is survived by two nieces, Johnette Smith of Willard and Martha Roesch of Sandusky; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-great niece and a great-great-great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle I. McCartney, Feb. 23, 1982; her parents, Thomas and Arizona Jones; one sister, Hazel Reynolds; six brothers, Howard, Cliff, Clyde, Roy, Joe and Guy Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. in Community Church of the Nazarene, 4013 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Pastor David Flack will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
