Irene E. (Irby) Terrell, 70, Sandusky, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 20, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Sandusky, Sept. 18, 1937, to Pink and Mary (Sanders) Irby, the youngest daughter of eight children. She heard Christ call at an early age and remained steadfast and faithful throughout her life.
Irene was a licensed cosmetologist, graduated from secretarial school, and worked at the former New Departure-Hyatt, retiring in 1993.
A member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, she enjoyed listening to music, especially gospel, and watching sports on television. Above all she was devoted to her family and friends, being around them, and having a generous heart, always willing to help them.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Leola Bailey, Sandusky; brothers, James (Helen) Irby and Ozell Irby, both of Sandusky; special nephew, Artie L. (Dawn) Castile, Sandusky; special niece, Sharon Irby, Columbus; 11 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews; special cousin, Paula Koonce; and special friends, Janet Croom, Barbara Davis and Helen Prophet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ernestine Irby and Corinne Castile; brothers, Samuel Irby and Emmanuel Irby.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Thursday until funeral services at 1 p.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. The Rev. Curtis A. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
