Robert D. "Bob" Blakely, 64, of Sandusky, passed away late Sunday evening, Feb. 17, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after an illness of nearly a year.
He was born June 12, 1943, in Sandusky and was a 1961 graduate of Sandusky High School. For the past few years Bob worked as director of quality assurance at W.E. Lott in Galion, Ohio. Prior to that he worked for more than 20 years at Ferrell-Cheek Foundry in Sandusky. He was active in local golf and bowling leagues throughout the years. He loved his boat, going fishing, spending time with his family and grandchildren and being involved in the family fish fries.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Suzanne J. (Fleming) Blakely; daughters, Debbie (Ron Harkness) Blakely of Orient, Ohio, and Julie (Matt) Smith of Columbus; favorite grandchildren, Megan and Cameron Harkness of Orient; mother, Alice E. (Moosbrugger) Blakely of Sandusky; brothers, Mark (Helen) Blakely of Sandusky, and Kevin (Chris) Blakely of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sisters, Cynthia (Capt. Bob) Ball of Sandusky, Pamela (Ron) Margetin of Lansing, Mich., and Shelley (Michael) Stout of Bethel Park, Pa.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and his special friends from W.E. Lott.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Blakely on Sept. 19, 2002.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. At his request, cremation will take place following services. Interment will be later in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
