George A. Phillips, 64, ofDelaware, Ohio, finished the race, passing away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at home.
Born Aug. 11, 1943, in Florence Township, Ohio, son of the late Albert and Frances (Baker) Phillips. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for Roadway Express for 30 years, moving to Delaware in 2006.
A lifelong member of Teamsters Local 961, he was a formervolunteer fireman for the Florence Township Fire Dept. An auto racing enthusiast, he enjoyed racing stock cars and in the legend series. Mechanically inclined, he enjoyed building motors and could fix anything. He collected tools of the trade, and numerous friends in the racing community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne (DeCaro), whom he married Oct. 30, 1976; children, Jeffery (Kelly) Phillips of Harrisburg, N.C., Kenneth (Norma) Phillips of Vermilion, Shelly (Jim) Wossilek of Wakeman, Ohio; stepson, Douglas (Taressa) Jones of Lewis Center, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jane Ann Segina.
Friends may call from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday in DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (Ohio 36), Delaware, whereservices will follow at 3 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mary Church, any hospice organization, or other charity of the donor's choice.
