Robert P. Grant Jr., 58, of Columbus, formerly of Sandusky, died Friday evening at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
He was born a Valentine blessing in 1949, in Pendleton, Ore., to Robert P. Sr. and Verlla Verona (Kubasek) Grant, who precede him in death. Bob graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1968. He served his country from 1972-78 with the U.S. Air Force, on active duty with the reserves, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.
He earned two bachelor's degrees; Arts in Spanish from Capital University, in 1973, and Science in Computer Information Systems from DeVry Institute of Technology, in 1989. He was employed by Progressive Medical in Columbus.
He attended Evangel Temple Assemblies of God, in Gahanna, Ohio, where he was involved with several ministries, including the church's prison ministry and adult English as a second language, where he taught English to Spanish-speaking adults. In recent months he attended the Easton Worship Center in Columbus.
Bob loved restoring classic cars. He also enjoyed muskie fishing, and won several tournament awards.
He is survived by a twin sister, Linda Grant Perrett, and her husband Doug, of Columbus, sister, Judith Holzaepfel, and her husband the Rev. Thomas H. Holzaepfel of Huron; four nieces, Carolyn Anderson, Kristin Hennessey, Rachel and Anna Holzaepfel; and a nephew, Caleb Holzaepfel.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m., Saturday at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 820 Cleveland Road E., Huron, with Bob'sbrother-in-law, the Rev. Thomas H. Holzaepfel, officiating.
Inurnment will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Groff Funeral Home, Sandusky, is handling the arrangements.
