Mitchel Lyons, 82, Huron, died early Tuesday morning in Erie County Care Facility, following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 26, 1925, in Louisa, Kentucky. He retired from Vulcan Materials, formerly Aluminum Magnesium Company, in 1985, after 32 years ofservice.
He attended Victory Baptist Church, Norwalk, and Sandhill Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing all the string instruments and playing old "bluegrass" music, gardening, baseball, fishing and his cat, Betsy.
He is survived by his wife, Edith, whom he married Dec. 23, 1950,and recently celebrated their 57th anniversary; daughter, Kathy (Kevin) Dragon, Sandusky; two sons, Gary (Kathy) Lyons, Sandusky, and Terry (Vicky) Lyons, Sandusky; grandchildren, Michael, LeNora, Jessica, Mandy and Ryan; six great-grandchildren, Korey, Kodey, Kallup, Kristopher, Olivia and Sophia; one sister, Opal Church, Ohio; one bother, Hubert Lyons, Kentucky; andseveral nieces, nephews, and otherrelatives.
His parents, Samuel and Teala (Borders) Lyons; brothers, Walter, Floyd, Edward and Burt Lyons; sisters, Zelphia Shannon and Virginia Stidham; and stepbrother, Arnold Borders, preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The body will lie in repose from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. in Sandhill Freewill Baptist Church, 7703 Mason Road, Castalia; Pastor Gary Sorrell Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Sandhill Cemetery.
