Jack Kotz, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 10, 2008, in Akron, Ohio. He was a lifelong resident of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate of 58 years, Mildred "Millie" Marcella (Hagg) Kotz; parents, Sakie Rebecca (Steinsen) and John Kotz; brothers, Clarence "Woody" Oswald, Arthur Oswald and Robert Kotz; sisters, Lucille (Oswald) Rosino, Frances Kotz, Betty Claire Kotz; and beloved grandson, Robert James Kotz.
He is survived by his sons, John "Jack" (Hanne Jorgesen) Kotz of Columbus; Dennis (Kathy) Kotz of North Augusta, S.C., Steve (Denise) Kotz of Hudson, Ohio; grandsons, Senior Chief Petty Officer Christopher (Kristen) Kotz, Scott Kotz, Nicholas Kotz, David Kotz and Jeffrey Kotz; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jaxon; in-laws, Jim and Agnes "Aggie" Gosser; and numerous relatives and friends.
Jack served in the Navy during World War II from 1944-46. He was employed by Esmond Dairy for more than 40 years and ultimately served as vice president. After retirement, he was employed by Cedar Point as a skilled wood-turner on Frontier Trail. He played semi-professional baseball and was offered a professional contract. He was an avid woodworker, an accomplished clarinet player (he played in the Sandusky High Marching Band and the Cedar Point Boy's and Girl's Band), and was a fisherman and sailboater.
Jack loved to sit with Millie at the City Dock and watch the sun set. Jack was a good man and a true gentleman in every regard. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. today at Johnson-Romito, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, 19 E. Main St., (On The Square), Hudson, Ohio. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
