Ruth Uhl, 84, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly early Saturday evening, Feb. 2, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 4, 1923, in Sandusky. She was a self-employed seamstress. Ruth sewed many SHS flags, costumes and uniforms. She also volunteered at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella. Ruth was an avid bowler, belonging to the 600 Club. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her card club friends.
Her daughters, Kathie (Mike) Gies of Strongsville, Ohio, Barb (Doug) Ware of Hillliard, Ohio, and Cheri (Ron) Nichols of Parma, Ohio; daughter-in law, Toni Uhl of Ithaca, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Kate Beier of Clyde and Mary Beier of Clyde; brother, Robert (Mary Louise) Hartman of Marblehead; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives survive her.
Her parents, George and Balbina (Nesselhauf) Hartman; one son, Kevin R. Uhl; and sister, Esther Hanley, preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where a prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Feltman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
