Stephen R. Lapata Jr., 66, of Kilbourne Street, Bellevue, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in Toledo.
He was born May 28, 1941, in Bellevue to Louisa (Gardiner) and Stephen Lapata Sr. Stephen, a 1959 graduate of Bellevue High School, was employed at Hogues IGA as a meat cutter. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1959-62. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, VFW post 1238, and Eagles Aerie 490 where he served as past president and as conductor. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and watching NASCAR racing and Jimmy Spencer.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Ilona (Reppien) Lapata, whom he married Dec. 15 , 1962, in Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Barb (Lapata) Gillett and Monica (Lapata) Strong, both of Bellevue; grandchildren, Kyle Strong of The Ohio State University, Matt Gillett of University of Chicago and Adrienne Gillett of Bellevue; sister, Dorothy "Dort" (William) Lapata Pomerson of Albert Lea, Minn.; brother-in-law, Horst Reppien of Hanau, Germany; sister-in-law, Gaby Reppien (Helmuth) Cappato of Hanau, Germany; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
Friends will be welcomed from 3-8 Tuesday at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, where an Eagles service will be at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
