Geneva A. (Cook) Rooy, 98, of Vermilion, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, in Mill Manor Nursing Home, Vermilion.
She was born Dec. 28, 1909, in Cleveland, and was a Vermilion resident for the past 31 years, moving from Richfield. She worked for Goodyear Aircraft, Akron, as a riveter during World War II, and also worked as a nurse's aide for Good Samaritan Hospital, Sandusky. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Vermilion. She was a member of the Madeleine Chapter of Eastern Star 204. She loved to cook, play the piano and organ, and loved to have everyone as part of her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Lee "Ginny" Schmidt, of Vermilion, and Anne Corinne Taylor, of Hollywood, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Lahr of Medina, Ohio.
Preceding her in death was her husband, William Herman Rooy, in 1954; daughter, Lucille Ruth Brown in 1994; grandson, Randy Kim Brown in 1984; parents, John and Lula (Lindley) Cook; sisters, Lelia Bannatine, Neota Bennett and Esther Hunt; and brothers, Clarence Cook and Clayton Cook.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday in Church of the Nazarene, 14907 Kneisel Road, Vermilion, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.
