Edwin E. Ackerman, 85, of Sandusky died Wednesday morning, Jan. 23, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a year-long illness.
He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Cleveland. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific, as a fire control instrument operator on the 40 mm anti-aircraft with the 383rd Battalion. In 1946, he moved to Sandusky, was employed by Third National Bank for 38 years, and retired from National City Bank in 1981. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy E. (Witt); one daughter, Caroline Ackerman of Sandusky; one son, Gary (Diane) Ackerman of Alta Loma, Calif.; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin L. and Caroline (Frey) Ackerman; two half brothers and one half sister.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 334 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
