Margaret E. Wechter, 96, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2008 in Stein Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
She was born July 6, 1911, in Norwalk, to Lynn and Lillian (Phillips) McDonald. She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was an elementary school teacher for 26 years, teaching in Norwalk and Monroeville, and for 21 years at Lyme Elementary. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary at Monroeville St. Joseph. She was a Martha Jennings Scholarship Award recipient. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Richard J. (Jacque) Wechter and James A. (Joan) Wechter, both of Sandusky, Mary M. "Marnie" Wechter, Neptune Beach, Fla., and Larry (Carol) Wechter, Huron; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony F. Wechter, July 10, 1998; grandson, Troy Anthony Wechter; parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Church; the Rev. Doug Garand will officiate. Private burial will be in Monroeville St. Joseph Cemetery.
